Jon is starting to feel better and better, today he refused to take a nap :P getting back to himself. The follow up at the hospital did not resolve anything, its too soon. I am shocked at the price of prescriptions – 7 pills (one a day) $60.00 :o its crazy! He is on 400mg of Avelox, so fingers crossed his infection will be gone soon!

This morning we went do some groceries, replenish the produce in the fridge LOL. One of the things on my list was some new tea.  I must have stood in the isle for about ten minutes looking at all of the different kinds available. One jumped right out to me :) Presidents Choice Chocolate Chai YUMMMIE! I never tried Chai tea before but the chocolate part was tempting LOL.

SO after putting my groceries away I grabbed my book and cup of tea and ventured outside to read a chapter or two. The tea was AMAZING, very aromatic and yet not overpowering, something I would enjoy simmering on the stove as well.

I had to google it and find out just what Chai tea was all about. Turns out there are a lot of really good health benefits to this black tea! “Not only does Chai tea offer the health benefits that you get from the tea itself but the spices added have additional health benefits that you won’t find in other types of tea. Some spices that are typically added include Cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and pepper.”

“Cardamom helps relieve indigestion problems so if you’re having digestive problems, this tea may help.

Cinnamon helps lower blood pressure, reduces pains and fevers, relieve symptoms of indigestion, nausea, gas and heartburn and can also help with menstrual cramps.

Cloves are said to help invigorate the body and are reputed to be great at relieving flus and colds.

Ginger is a great medicinal herb that’s been used for thousands of years and is said to help fight off the common cold as well the flu and is particularly effective in strengthening and healing the respiratory and digestive systems. It is also said to help with cardiovascular health, heal ulcers and reduce fevers and body aches.

Nutmeg is said to to help keep the mucous membranes, particularly those in the throat, moist it is a great herb for anyone that has problems in this area.

Pepper, which might seem like an odd thing to have in a tea is another ingredient of Chai tea which helps stimulate the taste buds and is said to improve digestion. it has been used for ages to help prevent gas and has both antibacterial and antioxidant properties. It is a great herb for promoting a healthy digestive system.

It also is said that Chai tea is lower in caffeine than coffee, something for you coffee drinkers to think about ;) you can have 3 cups of this tea to 1 cup of coffee!
